This presentation delivers a practical guide to adopting artificial intelligence (AI) within New Zealand's legal landscape. We will explore the future of legal practice in the 2030s, analysing global AI trends and their direct relevance to New Zealand's legal professionals. Key areas for enhanced efficiency, such as contract analysis and legal document drafting, will be highlighted, alongside demonstrations of emerging AI legal assistant applications. We acknowledge the unique challenges facing New Zealand's legal sector in AI adoption, including cost considerations, varying levels of computer literacy among lawyers, and critical data privacy concerns. To address these, we offer a comprehensive roadmap for AI integration. This roadmap provides tailored strategies for medium and large-sized practices, as well as a clear pathway for individual lawyers to become proficient in AI-enhanced legal work.
