Dr Jonathan Dickens

Dr. Jonathan F. Dickens is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Team Physician, and Fellowship Director and Duke Orthopaedics. 

Colonel Dickens also serves in the United States Army Reserves as a Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). He is the past Chief of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he was the orthopaedic consultant to Office of the President of the United States and White House Medical Unit, Vice-Chair Department of Surgery USUHS, Professor of Surgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Director of Orthopaedic Research.  Dr. Dickens has completed American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) North American Fellowship, the AOA American British Canadian Fellowship, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) ESSKA Travelling.  He is recipient of the AOSSM Excellence in Research Award twice as well as the AAOS OREF Kappa Delta Ann Donner Vaughn Award. 

 

Mr Lee Van Rensburg

Mr Lee Van Rensburg, Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon has a particular interest in trauma and disorders of the upper limb, particularly shoulder and elbow.

He completed his primary medical training in 1993 at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

After moving to the United Kingdom in 1996, he completed his basic surgical training at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds and completed his higher surgical training on the East Anglian orthopaedic rotation (Cambridge) in 2005 then went on to undertake a fellowship predominantly in trauma at the Alfred hospital, Melbourne, Australia in 2006.

He has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Cambridge University hospital NHS trust since 2006.

Mr Graham Tytherleigh-Strong

Mr Graham Tytherleigh-Strong is a highly experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in Cambridge, specialising in shoulder surgery.

Currently, he practices privately at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital and Nuffield Hospital. His areas of expertise include the arthroscopic management of shoulder instability, rotator cuff disease and arthritis. He has a particular interest in revision surgery and also dislocations and arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint. Other treatments that he provides involve sports injuries and elbow surgery.

Mr Tytherleigh-Strong graduated with his medical degree in 1990 from the University of London. He gained his level of expertise by training in London, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and Toronto. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Outside his private practice, Mr Tytherleigh-Strong works in the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is also an Honorary Clinical Fellow to the University of Cambridge. He was worked in many sports injury clinics and regularly lectures about shoulder surgery both nationally and on the international stage. He is actively involved in clinical research and has published multiple peer-reviewed journals and his work can be found on both Google scholar and ResearchGate.

 

Dr Jean-David (JD) Werthel

Jean-David Werthel is professor of orthopedics at Hôpital Ambroise Paré (Paris Saclay University) where he is responsible for the shoulder unit.

He completed his training in Paris and spent a year as a research fellow in the biomechanics lab of the Mayo Clinic. He also completed a PhD in computer science at the IMT Atlantique in partnership with Imascap. 

Jean-David co-chairs the Paris International Shoulder Course, a leading international event dedicated to advances in shoulder arthroplasty. He is an active member of the Chaine de l’Espoir, a French nonprofit organization working with disadvantaged children, with which he performs regular surgical missions for obstetric brachial plexus injuries and hand congenital deformities.

Jean-David has published over one hundred and thirty scientific articles and is a reviewer for shoulder articles and corresponding member in several journals.

 

Professor Kotaro Yamakado 

Professor Kotaro Yamakado, MD, PhD, is a highly respected orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist based at the Sports Medicine Center, Kansai Medical University, Japan.

He is an approved specialist of both the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) and the Japanese Orthopaedic Society, and is an active member of numerous national and international professional organisations. Professor Yamakado serves as a Board Director of the Japanese Shoulder Society and the Japanese Association of Therapeutic Exercise, and is an Executive Board Member of the Asian Shoulder Association. He has also held several leadership positions, including Former Chairman of the RSA Operations Committee of the Japanese Shoulder Society, and currently serves as a delegate to the Japanese Foot and Ankle Society and the Japanese Society for Replacement Arthroplasty.

Internationally recognised for his expertise in shoulder surgery, arthroscopy and sports medicine, Professor Yamakado is a Fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (FAANA) and a corresponding member of both the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow (SECEC). In addition to his clinical and academic achievements, he has developed expertise in emerging technologies, holding certifications in Deep Learning and Python programming and data analysis. Professor Yamakado is also an active contributor to medical research and education through his editorial roles on several leading journals, including the Journal of Orthopaedic Science, Asia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehabilitation and Technology, and JSES: Seminar in Arthroplasty, where he serves as Associate Editor. His appointment to the editorial board of Clinical Sports Medicine from 2025 further reflects his ongoing commitment to advancing orthopaedic science and sports medicine on a global scale.
